Internet TV versus IPTV: Difference? Benefits?

It looks like Broadcast Engineering is all over IPTV lately. A recent webcast (IPTV Design Considerations) covered infrastructure and equipment for IPTV networks, Broadcast Engineering will be sponsoring the IPTV Pavilion at NAB2008, and editor Brad Dick has contributed some material to the cosponsored website defining exactly what IPTV is.

So, the question remains: Is it worth it? Are broadcasters jumping all over IPTV technology because it's going to be the next big thing, or is it something that simply exists as an alternative to traditional routes? Ok, closed-circuit system and an expected QoS, sounds good to me, but what's holding broadcasters back from deploying it across the board? What are your experiences with the "big" IPTV service providers?

Also, don't forget, if you were at the webcast and have more questions, you can always start a new discussion in the feedback forum.
