Can you have Electronic equipment on all the time?

Can you have  electronic equipment on all the time?

We have a console that has five to six pieces of equipment that are always on.

Every few months one or two break down and has to be replaces or repair, these units are plug into one power supply.

Has the same item broken down more than once?  Let's say your console has a Panasonic BT-LH1700W (as an example).  Has this BT-LH1700W broken down, been repaired, and then broken down again?  If so, either the design (or the repair work) is flawed, or it is taking some sort of electrical surge/spike, or an environmental factor (heat) is causing the failure.  If it is always a different item that is breaking down, then either its solely environmental or electrical.  You may want to check what the incoming voltage is.  Perhaps its so high (or low) that a voltage regulator is in order?  You may also need more adequate surge protection.  Just because a surge protector provides electricity to all of its outlets does not mean it is going to absorb a surge.

There is equipment in our machine room that is on all the time.  It's protected by APC, TrippLite, and Furman conditioners (depending on the item).  The only items I would be leery of leaving on all the time are monitors (burn-in) and amplifiers (heat).

One simple fact to remember about electronic equipment is that any time it is left on, it is wearing out. I've heard many arguments over the years about the virtue of leaving equipment on all the time, as it keeps the equipment at a constant temperature and doesn't subject the equipment to heating and cooling cycles. 40 years ago, when equipment needed to warm up before you could use it, keeping it on 24/7 made sense. Nowadays, most things are ready to go once they've had their boot-up process. I try to turn off as much stuff as possible when I leave the station every day.
