Multiviewer Evolution. Articket from BroadcastEngineeringWold, January 2009

The artickel written by Kevin Jackson Harris Broadcast.

Harris is one of the leading manufactors regarding Multiviewer and they doo very good products, I must say. The artickel was quit good, but I have som few commens to ad on. In my company, we have been using multiscreen for many yers. Starting out with simple quadsplit up to Miranda Kaleido K2 and it all are dooing a quit good job. The Kaleido K2 for instans, is sitting in a studio controleroom for both recording and live productions, and looking ahead for an upgrate to HD, probaly this year, I will remind other studios to analyse cerfully what they need.

The multiviewer has many exelent features but also som disadvantaged:

How can the resolutions be solved? When choosing multiviewer where you for instans are spreading up to 16 sources at one screen, every one can tell, that the resolutiun on a camera preview monitorinput must be very poor, even in SD inviroment.

How can the delay be solved? In most multiviewer you have a delay reatching 2 frames, 2 frames in a show with music it gives a lot of frustrasion, even a talent just talk in to the camera is visible with just 2 frames. Many have tryed to talk me in to making a delay on our audio, but audio is komming in many different ways and it will not solv the problem, that the programe will be cut with a constant 2 frame delay.

I belive, that for production inviroment, this is 2 serious problems that must be solved. I am shure, that all vendores know those problems, but they don't like talk about them.

Do you have any commens on that Kevin Jackson?
